Often homeopaths are accused of giving STEROIDS in their medications. I thought this would be a good space to explain and clarify this unsubstantiated accusation.
Let me start with giving some common sense explanations:
If steroids were an answer to your problem, you would officially and legally receive them from my allopathic brethren and you won’t be googling for a homeopath!
Secondly, why should i do something illegal and harmful to my patients which would eventually risk my own reputation and my career.
Thirdly, there are no steroids available which are sweet and dissolve on your tongue!
Lastly, and most importantly, homeopathy itself has such potent medications that i do not need to resort to steroids on a sly!
Now let us turn to the more scientific aspect of this claim:
Laboratories which are not well equipped perform an old chemical reaction called Lieberman Kunhn’s Test. This was originally used in textile industries. The limitation of this chemical reaction is that it gives a positive test for steroids, sugars as well as alcohol. Now homeopathic medications, require alcohol and sugars as vehicle systems (media) to deliver the drug. Hence, if the sample of homeopathic medicine is subjected to this orthodox method of testing, it would be reported as positive- which actually is a “false positive.”
To overcome this limitation of the chemical tests, it is recommended that any samples be tested in a FDA approved laboratory by Ultraviolet Absorption Spectrum Test (UV absorption test). The absorption spectrum of no two subjects can ever be same, i.e an absorption spectrum is like a finger print of the substance. Hence the result by this test will give a different result for each substance thereby eliminating any possibility of a false positive reports.
